Pretty much everyone has been wanting to know what the heck is going on with Will Smith ever since the slap was heard around the world in March. In case you needed a little refresher, Will beat Chris Rock at the Oscars after he made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith’s baldness and then yelled expletives at the “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star when he returned to his seat.
Will was banned from the Oscars for 10 years as a result of the incident and has since apologized multiple times, including in a lengthy video shared on YouTube in late July. In that clip, Will explained that he hasn’t yet sat down with Rock to discuss what happened, but claimed he gave the comedian the opportunity. “The message that came back is this [Rock is] not ready to talk. And if he is, he’ll reach out,” Will said. “So I’m going to tell you Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
Two weeks later came Wills and Jada’s first public appearance since the super-dramatic incident. The pair were spotted on what appeared to be a date night in Malibu, when Will gave the paparazzi a thumbs-up while Jada held on to his belt loop as they walked together. He seemed in good spirits, but how does Will really feel after all the drama and backlash?
Will Smith is reportedly “in a really good place” after being slapped at the Oscars.
It seems Will Smith has moved on from one of the most dramatic moments in awards show history as an insider opens up about his mental state. “Will is in a really good place as best he can at this point,” a source told Us Weekly, admitting that his apology video from July seemed to go a long way in putting him in better headspace. “A huge load has definitely come off his shoulders,” they continued, noting that the father-of-three is in a much happier place and confident that things will get better from now on.
It appears the star has been working on himself after the slap, including taking time away from the spotlight to focus on his own well-being. People confirmed in April that the actor flew to India to attend meditation and yoga practices in Mumbai. Jada Pinkett Smith is not believed to have joined him.
Two months later, it was reported that Will was preparing for his big comeback. The US Sun reported that Will was planning to return to the big screen with I Am Legend 2, with a source explaining, “Will is undergoing therapy himself and taking a break from the spotlight… Two years from now, it could be all.” look different – and Will could return to the screen.”
