Let’s face it, we still can’t get over that infamous Oscar gossip seen around the world. We’re sure you know the exact moment we’re talking about, but in case you need a refresher, let’s throw it back to March, when Will Smith took offense at a joke Chris Rock made about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith had done at the Oscars. After Rock compared Jada’s hair to GI Jane’s, Will went onstage, slapped Rock, and then, sitting back in his seat, yelled for the comedian to keep his wife’s name out of his mouth. Plus, of course, a few swear words.
Since then, there has been much controversy surrounding the incident, including Will being banned from attending the Oscars for a decade after the Academy conducted an investigation into his controversial behavior. After that, things seemed to die down a bit — until Will posted a nearly six-minute apology video to his YouTube page in July. The star had already apologized on Instagram shortly after the incident, although he apologized again in his more recent video while addressing Rock. Will claimed he tried to contact the comedian but didn’t seem to speak to him, saying, “So I’ll tell you Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here whenever you’re ready to talk.”
Now? It seems Will and Jada are ready to put the controversy behind them and get back to normal life.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s date night after the slap
Stepping out! Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith decided it was time to face the world together again five months after the infamous incident at the Oscars. The couple were spotted out and about on Aug. 13 enjoying a date night at the Nobu Malibu, according to People, where Jada proudly showed off her balding (the star was candid about her experience with alopecia) while holding on to her husband. Want? The ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ star seemed quite happy as he smiled and threw up a peace sign for the waiting photographers. Will rocked a navy outfit with a black baseball cap, while Jada wore a black ensemble with a waist-tie flannel shirt and oversized sunglasses.
The Smiths sighting came about two weeks after Chris Rock spoke about the incident during a comedy show. Though the “Everybody Hates Chris” creator didn’t directly reveal what he really thought about the incident, he did make a few more subtle references to what happened a few times. During a stop in Atlanta on his “Chris Rock Ego Death World Tour” in late July, Rock claimed that everyone tries to be a victim in life, before noting, per CNN, “If everyone claims to be a victim, nobody will.” do hear the real sacrifices. Even I was beaten by Suge Smith… I went to work the next day, I had kids.
