Why Nicole Richie is no longer friends with Lindsay Lohan

It’s always heartbreaking when we witness our favorite celebrity couples break up, but it’s even more devastating when famous besties decide to end their friendship. We’ve seen it on Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan, all of whom were pretty much attached at the waist in the early years.

Along with Britney Spears, Hilton, Richie and Lohan were always spotted together, partying at clubs and attending social events. They were the it girls back then, and everyone wanted to be part of their circle. But a few years later, they all had a public and dramatic friendship breakup that to this day no one knew exactly what happened. In 2005, Hilton told People it was Richie’s fault. “It’s no big secret that Nicole and I are no longer friends,” she said in a statement. “Nicole knows what she did, and that’s all I’m ever going to say about it.” Meanwhile, in 2016, the heiress told SiriusXM’s “Radio Andy” that Lohan was “one of those people that I just don’t really trust” (via Us Weekly).

As for Richie and Lohan? Well, the details behind their falling out are still hazy, but it could have something to do with Lohan’s split from her ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson.

Everyone “turned on” to Lindsay Lohan after her split from Sam Ronson.

You may have forgotten, but Linsday Lohan once dated DJ Samantha Ronson. They dated for over a year and, according to the “Mean Girls” star, she doesn’t know why the relationship ended, saying it “came out of nowhere.” During an appearance on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Lohan confessed (via People), “I had no idea what was going on. I hadn’t seen her for about a week. It’s like she’s gone.”

Lohan also lost many of her friends around this time. In 2009, Lohan told Us Weekly that their breakup was “absolute hell.” Ronson reportedly stopped the actor from attending the after-party she threw for her sister Charlotte at the Chateau Marmont and changed the locks on the home they once shared. Lohan said she felt “so alone” at the time and on the night of the party, Nicole Richie apparently walked past her and yelled, “Uck!” while her other friend Drea De Matteo said, “Come over here, b*** H!” She added, “I felt like I was in Mean Girls, but worse, Mean Girls was a movie.”

Have Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan Ever Rekindled Their Friendship?

Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan haven’t been seen together in public since their partying days in the 2000s, and it doesn’t look like they’re going to be able to rekindle their former friendship. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live in 2014, the Simple Life star was asked when she last saw or spoke to Lohan, but she simply said, “[I] haven’t spoken to her in a while” without adding any further details.

However, she did admit that she could kiss and do makeup with her old BFF, Paris Hilton. “Paris is someone who has been in my life since day one. I haven’t technically spoken to her in a while, but if you really want to get into it, my view of a friendship is someone you don’t necessarily have to talk to every day,” Richie said (via E! News). “The short answer is I haven’t spoken to her in a while but we are very good friends and I love her and her family and have a lot of respect for her.”

What’s interesting about all of this is that Lohan once said she wasn’t really friends with any of the people she’d been partying with. “I have not spoken [Nicole] in a while. I’m acquainted with these people, but I’m not friends with all of these people,” she said in 2006 (via Digital Spy). “I don’t necessarily know anything about her life.”
