Why NeNe Leakes thinks Wendy Williams is the reason for her canceled talk show

After 13 years, The Wendy Williams Show aired its final episode on June 17. After giving up her seat on Sherri Shepherd’s “Sherri” this fall, drama has marred the departure of presenter Wendy Williams. The daytime icon has been beset by recent health problems and financial struggles, with further reports of behind-the-scenes tensions with staff surfacing in May. As an insider told Page Six, some of Williams’ employees were anxious to get rid of their allegedly erratic behavior. “There were days when people thought they didn’t have a job because she wouldn’t show up for work,” the source said.

Additionally, Williams’ unabashed sincerity has continued to land her in hot water with other celebs. Roseanne star Tom Arnold claimed to Page Six on June 29 that he and Real Housewives of Atlanta alum NeNe Leakes were set to co-host a daytime talk show with the same producers behind Williams — until Williams stepped in. According to Arnold, the drama dates back to 2014, when Williams disliked how Leakes customized her Birkin bag from Hermès, writing in a now-deleted tweet that she ruined it. Leaks confronted Williams in a blog post (via Page Six), writing, “I’m sure you’re scared I’ll take your place (I know you heard! Ummmm wink wink) BE SCARED!” Shortly after Arnold claimed he received a call from producers saying, “We can’t do the show.”

Never anyone who does not have the last word, Leakes herself addressed the aborted project from her point of view.

NeNe Leakes didn’t appreciate Wendy Williams’ slap about wealth

NeNe Leakes backed Tom Arnold’s claim that her 2014 blog post about Wendy Williams cost her her hosting show — with an extra wrinkle. The former Real Housewives of Atlanta told Page Six separately on June 29 that there is “truth” to Arnold’s story, but the 2014 Hermès-Birkin feud wasn’t the only reason she attacked Williams.

“Wendy saw that I defaced my Birkin bag and yes, she posted a comment about it on her show’s social media page,” Leakes confirmed. “But that wasn’t the trigger. The trigger was what you and I said about it in your ‘Hot Topics’. [segment]Apparently, Leakes claimed, Williams hadn’t considered her wealthy enough to tag Birkin bags (a bag that typically sells for over $10,000). “Kim Kardashian had done the same thing around the same time, she ‘defaced’ [Birkin] bag,” Leakes said. “Wendy said Kim could do it because she had the money to do it, but basically I didn’t.”

Williams kept letting the Leakes jabs come on her now-defunct talk show over the years. In September 2020, Williams commented on-air (via ET) that Leakes’ future after “RHOA” was uncertain because she wasn’t in a “legitimate multimillion-dollar situation” like some other housewives. Williams also called Leakes “boring” and chided that she “likes attention, dramatic attention.” No wonder the two dropped out!
