Why Kate Middleton Isn’t Joining The Rest Of The Royal Family To See The Queen

Kate Middleton and Queen Elizabeth II have always been in-laws. When the couple attended events together, they often huddled close together and often laughed, as at the monarch’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee celebrations. However, sometimes even members of the royal family have to make some sacrifices due to unforeseen circumstances. On September 8, Buckingham Palace issued a statement indicating the Queen’s health may not be optimal. It read: “Following further examinations this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended that she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at home in Balmoral.” Of course, Balmoral Castle is the Queen’s Scottish residence.

The news has taken the UK by surprise, with British Prime Minister Liz Truss voicing her concerns on Twitter. She tweeted: “The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this afternoon. My thoughts – and the thoughts of the people of our UK – are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time.” The monarch was due to meet with her Privy Council on September 8 but had to postpone the virtual meeting, she said Associated Press. Queen Elizabeth would have chaired a meeting at which Truss would have been sworn in as First Lord of the Treasury and the new Cabinet ministers would have also taken an oath. Instead, the engagement has been postponed as members of the royal family rush to the Queen’s side – with the exception of Kate.

Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations were in full swing this year as the UK commemorated her services to the country. However, the Queen has also called off a number of engagements this year due to ongoing health issues. Sometimes Prince William and Kate Middleton also had to fill in when the prince’s paternal grandmother was ill, per the Express. It should come as no surprise, then, that Prince William has rushed to be by his grandmother’s side after her medical team raised her concerns. However, Kate did not join him in Scotland. According to CNN, Kensington Palace addressed Kate’s absence and why she wasn’t currently on her way to Balmoral. The outlet reports that the Duchess of Cambridge is still in Windsor with her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. September 8th marks her first full day of school and she has decided to be there for them.

E! News reports that William, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall have arrived to be with the Queen. Even Prince Harry has left Germany to join his grandmother in Balmoral, according to Page Six, although Meghan Markle has opted to stay behind. Journalist Omid Scobie noted that Princess Anne was already at Balmoral Castle and would soon be joined by Prince Andrew, Prince Edward and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex.

It is important to Kate to tell the children about the Queen’s death

William and Kate’s children are going through big changes after moving into the brand new Windsor and Adelaide Cottage school. Any mother would want to be there for her children after so many changes, but Kate had to be there to break the news about her great-grandmother in person. Queen Elizabeth was close to the Cambridge children George, Charlotte and Louis. In fact, Express reported that George called Elizabeth “Gan-gan” and that the monarch had a hand in her upbringing. The Queen’s relationship with Louis was also seen during the Platinum Jubilee events. And who could forget when millions of hearts melted as they watched the Queen speak to Louis during the Trooping the Color ceremony?

It is heartbreaking that the Queen died when William and Kate decided to get closer to her. According to Reuters, the royal couple relocated to be closer to the monarch and allow the Cambridge children to have a more “normal” childhood outside of Kensington Palace’s fishbowl. Royal expert Katie Nicholl said OK! (via Cosmopolitan UK), “Neither William nor Kate have ever been Londoners and have never enjoyed the chaos of the city. Although their home at Kensington Palace is very secure, they have often felt overlooked and lacked privacy.” She further remarked, “The older their children get, the more obvious this becomes.”

Kate Middleton needs to be there for Prince George now

After the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince George’s life will never be the same. Today of all days the 9-year-old future king needs to be around a parent, which is why it made sense for Kate Middleton to stay with her kids. George is now third in line to the British throne. His grandfather is King Charles III, and his mother and father are now the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall! That’s a lot of changes for a young boy whose world has already been turned upside down with a move and a new school. Will George and his siblings change their surname from Cambridge to Cornwall? George certainly has these important questions, and he’s going to need his mom or dad to answer them.

George will likely need Kate to reassure him about his safety as he is closer to the throne. When he was only four years old, threats from ISIS forced the young prince to improve his security. The parents of George’s new school are not happy with the security upgrades needed to protect William and Kate’s children. According to Metro, parents are concerned it could hurt the school’s “vibe.”
