Diane Keaton and Warren Beatty are two Hollywood stars who were almost a couple.
Keaton has a number of genres under his belt. Some of her top films include “Something’s Gotta Give,” “The Godfather,” “The First Wives Club,” and one of her most famous films, “Anne Hall,” per The Guardian. Per Celebrity Net Worth, the popular actor, producer, and fashionista has amassed a net worth of $100 million over the years. She has a vibrant personality and a booming career, and an impressive laundry list of suitors vying for her heart – including Beatty.
A legend in his own right, Beatty has found much success in Hollywood during his six decades in the entertainment business. He is an actor, director, screenwriter and producer who has worked with some of the biggest names in the industry. He was nominated for 14 Oscars and even won the Oscar for Best Director for “Reds” in 1981, per Britannica.
Needless to say, both have had immense success in the entertainment industry and are showing no signs of slowing down. But both icons have something else in common: their admiration for each other. The Hollywood Romance That Never Was has many fans reflecting back on the story and wondering why things didn’t work out between Keaton and Beatty.
Diane Keaton and Warren Beatty loved each other
When it comes to Diane Keaton and Warren Beatty, they’ve both been in high demand professionally and romantically. Despite their busy schedules, they had a soft spot for each other. Keaton revealed to Variety in November 2016 that she first saw Beatty in 1961’s “Splendor in the Grass” and thought he was a “dream.” She continued, “[N]Not only was he beautiful, gorgeous and sexy and captivating and mysterious and a great movie star, but he was also an incredible producer and director, or rather is an incredible director and producer. All of that is just unique.” Twenty years later, Keaton played Beatty’s mistress in the 1981 film Reds, and the rest was history. There was a spark none of the movie stars could ignore.
Keaton said Beatty was a rarity, a brilliant character who was “unique and gifted.” In her opinion, he was complex and at the same time had the ability to charm anyone. Beatty had nothing but wonderful things to say about their time together. “I love her,” he revealed to People in November 2016. “She’s a combination of integrity and humor and intelligence and fairness and, did I say beauty? Brilliant comedic sense.”
The couple fell in love instantly, but their romance was a whirlwind one and didn’t stand the test of time. However, the two have remained friends over the years.
Diane Keaton and Warren Beatty remain close friends
While a chance for romance between Diane Keaton and Warren Beatty is off the table, their strong friendship remains. Part of her fate was simply down to timing. Both were and are household names in Hollywood and just too busy to balance a relationship with a demanding career. Keaton previously admitted she didn’t want to sacrifice her dreams for a relationship and chose to remain single. Speaking to Interviewer in June 2021, Keaton said she just “didn’t want to give up my independence,” which stemmed from watching her mom give up her dreams to focus on family.
Although Beatty was known as a playboy, he has nothing but love for his famous ex-boyfriends. “I don’t think any of these very impressive, brilliant and beautiful women were particularly interested in marriage. Look at their love when I wasn’t a part of them. I like to think I’ll remain a friend,” he shared with People.
With a busy career and Duke and Dexter’s mother, who adopted her when she was in her 50s, the star is doing well and has no time for dating these days. In a July 2019 interview with InStyle, Keaton revealed that she hadn’t dated in more than 30 years. Beatty, on the other hand, married Annette Bening in 1992 and the couple have four children together: Stephen Ira Beatty, Isabel Beatty, Benjamin Beatty and Ella Beatty.
