What is Jax Taylor’s real name?

Former reality star Jax Taylor burst onto the Bravo scene in 2013 as a careless if immature waiter at star restaurateur Lisa Vanderpump’s flagship restaurant SUR. Almost immediately, viewers were entranced by Taylor’s on-camera antics as “number one” or villain in the bunch…depending on who you ask. But over the years, even Taylor himself seemed to have grown weary of his kind.

“When I got to Hollywood I was trying to make a name for myself, constantly telling people stories, things that weren’t true, trying to be accepted by my peers, trying to live off my means that I wished for , I could take it back,” Jax revealed on an episode of the Daddy Issues podcast. “I was just trying to be accepted. I felt like I couldn’t have a conversation if I [wasn’t] stretching the truth,” he added. “There was a lot of shit I said to get on top [and] because I told so much bullsh*t there were so many lies I was caught up in. It was tough.” Perhaps the problem, however, wasn’t so much that Taylor was trying to make a name for himself, but that he was relaunching…

Jax Taylor is actually Jason Michael Cauchi

Jax Taylor was actually born Jason Michael Cauchi.

“I changed my name when I was 21,” Taylor revealed to The Daily Dish in 2018. “It was more like traveling and modeling. So they just said, ‘Yeah, that name isn’t going to work. We’re going to throw this name – what’s your mother’s maiden name? OK. Yes this is good. And then it just stuck. That’s really where the name came from,” he explained.

Unfortunately, the new name eventually stuck for the then-reality star. “I honestly love how I feel again. I’m starting to feel like Jason again,” Taylor admitted in March 2018 during an episode of Bravo’s PumpRules After Show. “However, I felt like I took on this person – this Jax Taylor. I took him on as a character and I became this celebrity douche bag in LA who you know just didn’t care about the world, had no soul and I was just kind of like, who is this person?” he continued.

Marriage complicated things a little

However, some may argue that the whole name confusion only came to a head when Jax Taylor proposed to his girlfriend, Brittany Cartwright.

“We talked about it a little bit here and there. We joked about it because I have multiple names. So I think she should keep her last name, but our kids will have my last name — my legal last name, which is Cauchi,” Taylor told Bravo’s The Daily Dish in December 2018. Luckily, Cartwright was on the same page. “I’m still deciding what exactly we’re going to do with it because nobody knows Jax as Jason Cauchi. Everyone knows him as Jax Taylor. So if I’m suddenly Brittany Cartwright Cauchi, I have a feeling people will be like ‘what?!’ And I think that might be a little confusing and he thinks so too… But our kids will definitely be Cauchi if that helps anything. So we’re just trying to decide what we’re going to do with my last name. It would probably be a hyphen if anything,” she added.

Fast-forward to April 2021, when the couple welcomed a baby boy named — drum roll please — Cruz Michael Cauchi. It’s not yet known if Cruz will decide to follow in his father’s footsteps and adopt a new nickname when he turns 21, but after all the confusion, maybe not. TBD, we assume.
