What has Marg Helgenberger been up to since CSI?

Actress and philanthropist Marg Helgenberger stole America’s heart while starring in the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Even among the many other franchise iterations of “CSI,” Helgenberger’s character, Catherine Willows, remains a fan favorite, and she has appeared in a remarkable 264 episodes of the long-running show. Her performance also earned Helgenberger two Emmy Award nominations and two Golden Globe Award nominations.

And her success from this series was certainly long-lasting as well. TV Guide estimates that she has earned a historic $375,000 per episode, and Forbes named her one of the “10 Highest Earning Women in Prime Time” in 2009 . But to the desperation of her fans, Helgenberger left the show in the 2012/2013 season.

The former leading lady told The Hollywood Reporter: “[I] instinctively felt it was time to end this chapter of my career. I’m 53 now and still feel young enough to make the switch.” Her absence from the latest “CSI” spinoffs has her Instagram followers begging her to return to the “CSI” franchise whenever she posts anything naughty #TBT photo from the old days on set But, probably to CBS Stans’ chagrin, Helgenberger has enough to keep her busy off the show.

Marg Helgenberger starred in another acclaimed show

After the monotony of playing the same character for over 12 years, Marg Helgenberger has a busy schedule. She starred in the 2019 film A Dog’s Journey and that same year landed the role of Superintendent Lisa Benner on CBS’ All Rise, which explores inequality within the justice system. The show was nominated for the 2021 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Drama Series. Unfortunately, the actor announced that All Rise would not be returning in the 2022/2023 season. “I will miss playing with this amazing group of people, along with the entire company at @AllRiseCBS,” Helgenberger tweeted. “I am proud to have been part of the storytelling that has illuminated injustices within the court system and the police force.”

Unfortunately, Helgenberger’s new show Getaway, which she landed in June, will not be continued, Deadline reported. Make things worse? “All Rise” was picked up by OWN after the CBS cancellation, but Helgenberger didn’t sign on due to her involvement with “Getaway,” the outlet noted. However, it is possible that she will rejoin in some capacity in the future.

Despite these setbacks, the former “CSI” star enjoys a fulfilling life filled with love and the things that matter to her.

Marg Helgenberger has a zest for life

In 2008, Marg Helgenberger split from her 19-year-old partner, former SAG-AFTRA President Alan Rosenberg. The couple have one son together, Hugh Howard Rosenberg, who debuted in 1990. The actor is now dating boyfriend Charlie, who has been featured in sweet pics on her Instagram page. It’s clear Helgenberger’s zest for life as she gushed to First For Women: “I love learning new things! I’ve always loved to sail, but I didn’t do it much until Charlie, who has a sailboat, taught me how it was fun and relaxing.”

Helgenberger is also a proud philanthropist and has worked with various charities. She often works with Stand Up to Cancer and is committed to advancing breast cancer research. The cause is close to Helgenberger’s heart, as her mother was diagnosed with the condition while the actor was in college. Her mother survived after undergoing “rather radical” treatment, and Helgenberger told mothers in 2019 of her then 84-year-old mother: “I see her as an educator but also as a very strong woman. She’s an inspiration.” Unfortunately, Helgenberger’s mother passed away in October.

What’s next for Helgenberger? Well, the CSI: Las Vegas sequel premiered in October, and a month before its debut, it appeared to be teasing a return for Catherine Willows… so fingers crossed!
