Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky have been through a lot. The handsome couple have long been fan favorites on Bravoverse, but things haven’t always been smooth sailing. Rumors of marital feuds and infidelity have plagued Umanksy and Richards for years. Fans will remember when Lisa Vanderpump commented on the rumors in front of her youngest daughter, or when Vanderpump allegedly convinced Brandy Glanville to bring tabloids about Umanky’s alleged affairs on a girl’s journey.
Despite everything, Richards and Umansky persevered. “Thank you for always having my back, for being my biggest cheerleader, best friend, the yang to my ying, father of our babies, partner in life. I’m so grateful to have you by my side in this incredible life we’ve built,” Richards wrote in an emotional Instagram post to celebrate the couple’s 26th wedding anniversary. “I love and appreciate you more than ever.”
Die-hard fans know that Mauricio wasn’t always the only man in Richards’ life. At just 18, Richards married Guraish Aldjufrie, a businessman from Indonesia, and gave birth to their eldest daughter, Farrah. Years later she met Umansky — but in the meantime she was actually engaged to another man. Here’s everything we know about Michael Tuck, the mysterious other man in Richard’s life.
Kyle is embarrassed now
After so many seasons on the air, you’d think Kyle Richards would be out of secrets. Not so! Fans were shocked when she found out she was engaged when she met her now husband Mauricio Umansky. “Do I have to name names?” Richards asked uneasily when Andy Cohen asked for more details during a Watch What Happens Live appearance.
Richards briefly explained that when she met Mauricio, she was engaged to a man named Michael Tuck, who was 24 years her senior. Though Richards didn’t want to divulge further details, we can piece together a little what happened next. After Richards met Umansky, someone (we can’t say who) broke off the engagement, and Richards and Umansky dated for about two years, according to The US Sun. They married in 1996 when Richards was four months pregnant with their eldest daughter, Alexia.
Based on Richard’s body language during her Watch What Happens Live performance, we can surmise that Umansky and Tuck’s crossover was a little messy. We’ll never know how Tuck felt about it. The news anchor died in August at the age of 76.
Kyle and Tuck had something in common
Michael Tuck, the man Kyle Richards wanted to marry before he met Mauricio Umansky, loved being on TV just as much as his ex-fiancé. Tuck was a highly respected news anchor who worked in Southern California for 40 years.
“He left his mark on San Diego through his unique voice and searing perspectives,” a colleague said during a tribute story following Tuck’s death in August. Tuck moved to San Diego from Philadelphia in the 1970s and began reporting for a local CBS affiliate. Tuck has definitely made his mark on the station. “He was opinionated and demanding, and colleagues say he was worth it,” the report reads. “Great as a presenter and great on the field.” After gritting his teeth in San Diego, Tuck moved to LA where he met Kyle and worked until 1999 when he returned to San Diego and started a new contract with his old station.
Tuck didn’t feel uncomfortable about his broken engagement to Richards. Not long after the split, Tuck met his wife, Jill, and soon welcomed two sons and a daughter, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. For Tuck, however, San Diego was his true love. “It meant a lot to him,” Jill said in an interview after Tuck’s death.
