The truth about Seth Rogen’s feud with Justin Bieber

It seems like Justin Bieber was on the receiving end of Seth Rogen’s wrath just the other day, but what became of that feud?

As a refresher, 2014 was a difficult time for the Biebs. In January, he raided a neighbor’s house. According to BBC News, the stunt earned him two years of probation, community service and a hefty fine. Less than two weeks later, he was again in trouble with the law. This time Bieber was arrested for drag racing in Miami as well as DUI. Suffice to say, many were unfazed by his exploits… and Seth Rogen was one of them. The comedian’s first shot came in the form of a tweet. “All jokes aside, Justin Bieber is a piece of shit,” he wrote. However, he didn’t stop there. On a March episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Rogen reiterated his dislike for the singer. “He seems obnoxious and ungrateful, dishonest and he’s putting lives at risk,” he said on MTV.

When the prankster later shared similar sentiments on a number of other talk shows, it quickly became clear that Rogen had his eye on the pop sensation — but was there more to this feud than many of us realised? And where are they both today?

Seth Rogen was snubbed by Justin Bieber

Seth Rogen’s tweet may have been sparked by Justin Bieber’s behavior in early 2014, but according to the comedian, the egging and DUI incidents were just the last straw.

Speaking on “The Howard Stern Show,” Rogen explained that his irritation with Bieber began when the two were backstage on a German talk show years ago. “Somebody literally walked up to the door and said, ‘Justin Bieber wants to meet you,'” he said. Rogen obliged – but it’s safe to say the actual interaction was far from what he expected. “I went outside to meet him and he acted like I asked to meet him!” He laughed, still surprised by the exchange. Still, the “Superbad” writer joked that he was ready to let it slide, pointing out that while he didn’t love the attitude, Bieber was young. Two years later, however, he had another encounter with the “Baby” singer. “I spoke for him for about five minutes … and I started thinking, like, f*** this kid,” he shared.

In a surprisingly healthy twist, Bieber himself addressed the tension via Twitter — and even apologized to his critic. “Sorry I didn’t bow when I asked if I’d like to meet you. You were probably a bit shy and didn’t want to be over the top, but still. I love your movies,” he wrote.

…but it seems Justin killed Seth with kindness

Obviously, Justin Bieber’s tweet was a pretty effective strategy, as Seth Rogen revealed on a 2015 episode of The Ellen Show that he felt bad dissing him so publicly. In fact, Rogen even went so far as to retract his earlier comments.

Despite his claims that he found his first two meetings with Bieber unnerving (to say the least), comedian Ellen DeGeneres said that actually wasn’t the case. “I only met him once, very briefly, and honestly it was a very pleasant interaction,” he laughed. As for why he chose to say the opposite the year before, Rogen admitted he didn’t know the answer to that. “I can’t really tell you why I did it — I was inclined to do it in that moment … and then I did it,” he joked. However, he also reiterated that the entire situation was “It’s all my fault!”

While it was certainly understandable for Bieber to have been frustrated by the whole ordeal, he seemed in good spirits about it. He even showed up at the end of the interview, donning a Rogen mask that had been sent out to promote The Night Before. The two embraced it for the audience, and we haven’t heard of any tension since. Shout out to Justin Bieber for proving that sometimes killing ’em with kindness really is the best way!
