The truth about Anne Heche’s children

Dancing with the Stars alumnus Anne Heche has kept her personal life relatively private over the years. However, following her fiery car accident, those who follow the story have begun to engage with those closest to her — including her two sons.

When it comes to Heche’s personal life, she’s most associated with her ex-girlfriend, Ellen DeGeneres, even though they broke up more than 20 years ago. Heche has previously spoken about the impact their relationship has had on her life and career. In an August 2020 interview with Mr. Warburton, she described their time together as “a beautiful time in my life.” The actress also gushed about being a part of such an important moment for the LGBTQIA+ community as she and DeGeneres made their red carpet debut as a couple. However, she has also found that her career took a hit after her debut. Speaking to Page Six, Heche described herself as “patient zero in the abandonment culture,” and explained that she was essentially blacklisted in Hollywood for a long time.

Though Heche’s relationship with DeGeneres is her most prominent since their split, she has several other relationships. Two of them saw her greet her sons Homer Laffoon and Atlas Tupper – but what do we know about their beloved boys?

Anne fought hard for custody of her two sons

Unfortunately, raising her sons wasn’t always easy for Anne Heche. Quite the opposite, she’s engaged in two intense custody battles over the years.

Shortly after her split from Ellen DeGeneres, Heche married Coley Laffoon and together they welcomed their son, Homer Laffoon. Per People, a month after Heche announced they had split, Coley filed for divorce. This turned into a protracted custody battle. According to TMZ, Coley accused his estranged wife of “poor parenting skills” as well as “bizarre and delusional behavior.” Two years later, Heche slammed her ex-husband as a “lazy ass” on “Late Show with David Letterman” (via TMZ). Ultimately, per TMZ, the former couple received joint custody while Homer stayed in Los Angeles.

At the time of this custody battle, Heche had the full support of her then-boyfriend, James Tupper. Per Irish Examiner, he gushed about her dedication “to all the good things”. He and Heche had a son of their own, Atlas Tupper. However, when Heche and James called it quits after 10 years together, they too had an uphill battle over custody. According to court documents released by the Daily Mail, Heche accused James of locking her and Atlas out of their home. James denied the claims – suggesting via email from Radar that the proposal may be “linked to extended drug use”.

… and it seems that they have a close relationship

Aside from the custody drama, Anne Heche seems to have an extremely close bond with her two sons.

Over the years, the actor’s Instagram followers have gotten glimpses of this bond. From sweet Valentine’s Day dinners and car rides to sing-along with Atlas Tupper to posts gushing about her two boys’ “monumental birthdays,” it’s clear Heche is one proud mom. Most recently, she shared a picture of the three at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum with the caption, “#luckyiestmom.”

After Heche’s health deteriorated following the accident, a source told ET that Homer Laffoon is doing everything in his power to ensure his mother receives the “best care available.” “He’s as strong as he can be,” they said of the 20-year-old. As for Tupper, 13, his dad took to Instagram to send congratulations to his ex. Alongside a picture of Heche with her son, the ‘Big Little Lies’ actor wrote, “Thoughts and prayers for this beautiful woman, actress and mother.” We send our love to both of Heche’s sons at this time and hope for a full recovery of the actor.
