Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard — the quintessential celebrity relationship — have been together a lot longer than most other married actors. Shepard and Bell first crossed paths in 2007 at a dinner party hosted by their mutual friend, and the two went on a few dates before deciding to make it official. They got engaged two years later and married in 2013. Since then, Bell and Shepard have given birth to two daughters, Lincoln and Delta, which the couple wanted to keep from the public eye.
Over the course of their relationship, the two have continued to advance their acting careers. Though Shepard has played notable roles in film and television since the 2000s, he’s almost better known for his funny personality in interviews and as the host of shows like Family Game Fight and Top Gear America. Since then, Bell has also appeared in hit films and television shows such as Veronica Mars, Gossip Girl and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
With all of these amazing roles and jobs, it’s shocking to learn that Shepard and Bell actually never signed a prenup.
Dax Shepard assured Kristen Bell that he didn’t need a prenup
When Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell were preparing for their wedding, both were successful working actors. At the same time, however, Bell was only on the verge of becoming the household name she is today. The year Bell and Shepard married was the same year that the Disney blockbuster Frozen, in which Bell voiced a co-lead, was released.
During a 2018 interview on CONAN about their joint ventures, Shepard revealed that he’s “glad” that Bell now appears to be the breadwinner of her family. “When we started dating, I had more money than she did and I owned the house that I lived in,” Shepard explained. He then shared how Bell had asked him if they should sign a financial agreement before tying the knot. To keep the peace, Shepard assured his wife-to-be that he was not interested in making this legal arrangement, although his knee-jerk, covert response was to request one.
But in hindsight, Shepard joked on CONAN that he was grateful for their lack of a prenup. “I made the right decision…because she’s become much more successful than me…or has she?” Shepherd laughed. Well, it turns out that Bell and Shepard’s net worths are estimated to be around $40 million each! Both actors have had unique successes, so it’s not surprising that they’re multi-millionaires themselves.
Dax and Kristen want to go through thick and thin
Although Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard have joked about divorcing, their marriage has been going on for almost a decade. In early April, the couple announced on This Morning that they had been attending couples therapy to proactively work on their relationship.
“We try to be very honest [the fact] that we often disagree but go to therapy when we need it,” Bell explained. “Because I don’t want to make people think they should be looking for the missing piece of the puzzle… Every human being is a mess.” You have to figure out how to pac and grow with someone.”
Shepard has been open about his past substance abuse and current sobriety journey, while Bell has been constantly supportive. It’s clear that while Shepard and Bell may have their normal ups and downs, they are in it for the long haul. In his CONAN interview, the Parenthood actor summed up his and Bell’s marriage in one sentence: “Sometimes we’re in Samsung commercials and we’re cuddling at Christmas time, and sometimes we’re yelling at each other about Michaels [Crafts store].”
