Britney Spears is known and revered as a pop superstar around the world. She first appeared in the ’90s reboot of Disney’s The Mickey Mouse Club, along with other future stars like Christina Aguilera and Ryan Gosling. After The House of Mouse, she signed to Jive Records in 1997 when she was just 15 years old. Spears became a worldwide phenomenon after the release of her debut studio album,…Baby One More Time, in 1999, which would go on to become one of the best-selling of all time. Spears herself went on to become one of the best-selling female music artists of all time, one of the country’s most studied celebrities, and a pop icon.

In 2002, she starred in the teen road movie Crossroads, and although the film was not well received by critics at the time, the film has become something of a cult classic. Although Spears’ performance was praised, she has not appeared in any films since Crossroads. However, she became very close when at one point she almost reunited with her former “Mickey Mouse Club” cast member Ryan Gosling. And although a film career didn’t materialize for her, the two got back together years later.

Although the charming Canadian actor first appeared as a child in ‘The Mickey Mouse Club,’ Ryan Gosling’s big break came in 2004’s romantic drama The Notebook. Although the female lead eventually went to relatively unknown Canadian actress Rachel McAdams, who broke into that year’s The Notebook and Mean Girls, a number of young actors were considered for the role, including Jessica Biel, Ashley Judd and of course Britney Jean herself.

Casting director Matthew Barry revealed in a 2021 interview with the Daily Mail that Spears auditioned for the role and although McAdams would be cast it was a close call in the end. “[Britney Spears] really wanted to get the job,” Barry said. via E! OnlineBarry described Spears’ audition as “amazing,” but it was McAdams who ended up winning the audition. “She screwed it up,” Barry said of McAdams. “When you watch the video, I’m crying like a baby behind the camera … it was just magical.”

According to the cheatsheet, Spears’ audition tape for The Notebook is up for auction on eBay, with a starting bid of $1 million. Although the auction was announced in May 2021, there is no update on whether the band was purchased as of June 2022.

Britney Spears and Ryan Gosling got back together years later

Though Britney Spears never starred again after Crossroads, she clearly wanted it, at least initially. In a video posted to Twitter by Spears talking about “The Notebook” while auditioning for it in 2004, she was desperate to land the role. “I would die if I had to do it,” she said. “It’s the most amazing script I’ve ever read and I think it’s really, really good.”

Though Spears and Ryan Gosling didn’t reunite on camera for The Notebook, they would reunite years later, backstage on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2018. Though no video footage of their reunion exists, DeGeneres did Photo of it posted three of them on her Instagram account. Gosling spoke about their reunion the same day she guest-starred on her show. “Neither of us could remember,” Gosling said of how long it had been since he and Spears last saw each other, “which I think is a sign that it’s been quite a while.” He said then that he believes it had been since their “Mickey Mouse Club” days.

Spears also later appeared on the DeGeneres show that same day, she wasn’t talking about Gosling but was mysteriously promoting an “announcement” she had pending. Still, it’s safe to say that the two had a joyful and happy reunion backstage after all these years.
