Rosie O’Donnell opens up about Anne Heche after the actor’s violent car accident on August 5. The accident that saw the “Men In Trees” star crash into a home in Los Angeles left Heche in “extremely critical condition,” according to USA Today. Now O’Donnell is talking about an incident that happened between the two almost 20 years ago.
In 2001, Heche told Barbara Walters that she once had an alternate personality named Celestia — who she mentally created in response to the abuse she suffered from her father. “I thought I was of this world. I thought I was from another planet. I think I was crazy,” Heche said, per ABC News.
O’Donnell later joked about the interview with the actor during a stand-up routine a year later. “What the hell was that train wreck?” O’Donnell joked in reference to Heche sitting down with Walters (via People). The former The View host went on to suggest that Heche used the story to divert attention from her breakup with Ellen DeGeneres. “She couldn’t just say, ‘I was a lesbian for two years; it didn’t work out for me’?” Almost two decades later, however, it appears that O’Donnell is changing her mind.
Rosie O’Donnell apologized for mocking Anne Heche
Rosie O’Donnell regrets mocking Anne Heche during her ongoing hospital stay. “I feel bad that I made fun of her when she spoke to Barbara Walters about an alien relationship,” O’Donnell said in a TikTok video. “I wonder if she’s okay. I think it’s a miracle she didn’t kill anyone.” The comedian continued to remind her 2 million followers of the dangers of drinking and driving and reminded viewers to seek help if needed.
This isn’t the first time the stand-up has apologized for her outspoken statements. In February, O’Donnell described an alleged incident in which she misidentified Priyanka Chopra Jonas as Deepak Chopra’s daughter. “To Nick Jonas, I apologize, and to Chopra’s wife, I also apologize,” Rosie said (via Page Six). However, O’Donnell’s attempt at reconciliation was criticized by Chopra, who slammed the commenter for simply referring to her as Jonas’ “wife.”
