Ricky Martin has gone from being a happy and settled married father of four to a livin’ la vida loca. Martin met his husband Jwan Yosef after slipping into his DMs – they later got engaged in 2016. “I proposed. I was really nervous,” Martin admitted on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The two secretly married in a private ceremony, with the singer telling E! News“It feels great! I can’t introduce him as my fiancé. I can not. He is my husband.”
Martin already had twins, but the newlyweds were keen to expand the family; They welcomed a daughter in 2018 and a son in 2019. Everything seemed peachy for the notoriously private singer until a bombshell hit in June this year. Per the New York Post, Martin’s former manager slammed him with a $3 million lawsuit for “unpaid commissions.”
In legal documents, Rebecca Drucker claims she had to take it all on because of Martin’s “personal and professional life [were] in absolute turmoil.” The lawsuit also alleges Drucker “vigorously protected” the singer after he was “threatened with a potentially career-ending allegation in 2020.”
“Rebecca Drucker saved Ricky Martin’s career,” the lawsuit states. “There’s just one problem: Martin has completely and maliciously refused to pay Rebecca the millions of dollars in commissions he owes her under her management contract.” And just when you thought Martin’s legal troubles couldn’t get any worse, here comes the news that he faces a restraining order for domestic violence.
Ricky Martin’s domestic violence restraining order is a mystery
Ricky Martin has already been sued by his ex-manager for $3 million and now he’s also facing a domestic violence restraining order. To add to the chaos, his husband of four years, Jwan Yosef, is not the man who made the allegations.
According to the Associated Press, a judge signed off on the request for a restraining order. However, when authorities arrived at Martin’s home in Puerto Rico, they were unable to deliver the papers to him because he was nowhere to be found. The Puerto Rican newspaper El Vocero reported that the plaintiff was someone Martin “had been dating for seven months.” According to the outlet, the unnamed man ended their relationship two months ago. However, he claimed Martin refused to acknowledge that it was over. The singer was allegedly spotted “hanging around near the petitioner’s home on at least three occasions”. Per People, Martin’s reps have branded the allegations “completely false and fabricated” and vowed their client will be “fully corroborated.”
Martin is known to be secretive about his personal and personal life. In interviews, he rarely talks about his marriage or children. However, after playing Antonio D’Amico in Ryan Murphy’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, Martin spoke out in favor of normalizing open marriages. D’Amico and the designer had been in a non-monogamous relationship during their 15 years together before Versace’s murder in 1997. “I want to normalize those relationships,” said Martin Vulture. “It’s good for the world; it’s good for me as a gay man with kids.”
Martin’s whereabouts are still unknown at the time of publication – this is an ongoing story.
