One of Leonardo DiCaprio’s exes bravely speaks out in his defense

Camila Morrone and Leonardo DiCaprio announced their split in August. The model had just turned 25, fueling a longstanding internet theory that DiCaprio doesn’t date women older than a quarter of a century. Skeptics need only look to DiCaprio’s track record of high-profile exes for proof, including Gisele Bundchen, Bar Refaeli, Blake Lively, Erin Heatherton, and Nina Agdal. What did all these women have in common? They were typically younger, blonde, veterans on a Victoria’s Secret runway — and no older than 25. Consequently, Twitter had many thoughts about DiCaprio’s split from Morrone.

“Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio feels bad for all the women who can’t rent a car until they’re 25 and is actually a really good guy. Has that ever crossed your mind,” one person tweeted. Another took a philosophical approach, theorizing, “The girl who will leave Leonardo DiCaprio at 72 was born today.” It’s even making the rounds of a viral infographic! So, to answer Lana Del Rey’s question, no, DiCaprio probably won’t love you until you’re young and beautiful.

Luckily for Morrone, she seems to be coping well after the breakup. The model has shifted her focus to acting and is set to star in ‘Daisy Jones & The Six’ on Amazon Prime, per E! News. But DiCaprio hasn’t fared as well, having been the target of “ageist” memes and scathing headlines. Luckily there is at least one person from his past who stands up for him.

Kristen Zang urges people to stop judging Leonardo DiCaprio

As the internet explodes with speculation about who Leonardo DiCaprio will be dating next — and possibly more importantly, how old she will be — at least one of his ex-girlfriends decides to agree with him the best of the best. Former actor and model Kristen Zang dated DiCaprio in the 1990s, when Hollywood was a far more straightforward place. Despite the fact that her 25th birthday also spelled the death knell for the relationship, Zang feels the ramblings about DiCaprio’s breakup with Morrone may be unfair. “When I read the headlines and online comments calling his most recent ex-girlfriend ‘mature’ or ‘too old for Leo at 25,’ poof-lease (insert dramatic eye roll). I think we can and should do better. What kind of message does that send to young people?” Zang wrote in an essay for People.

She continued that fans don’t know what caused the downfall of DiCaprio and Morrone’s relationship. “Maybe [Camila] really cared about him but was just getting ready for the next chapter, maybe it’s temporary, or maybe it’s none of our business but can we stop the age-related headlines and comments?” Zang concluded.

To prove he can be more non-discriminatory with his wives, DiCaprio is reportedly eyeing Gigi Hadid, according to Us Weekly. Although Hadid is blonde and a model, she is also 27 years old. Watch DiCaprio branch out!
