Ne-Yo and his wife Crystal Smith tied the knot in 2016, but married life hasn’t been easy for them. The R&B singer spoke to Billboard in July about how he and his wife were very close to divorcing during the pandemic but eventually reconciled. But now the Miss Independent singer’s wife claims her husband cheated on her during the eight years they were together.
“8 years of lies and deceit,” Smith wrote on Instagram (via The Los Angeles Times). “8 years of unknowingly sharing my life and my husband selling him their bodies unprotected. To say I’m heartbroken and disgusted is an understatement. Asking me to stay and accepting it is absolutely insane.” At the end of the statement, she made it absolutely clear that she was done with the singer, saying, “I beg of you all, please don’t give me any videos or information about his cheating because what he does is no longer my business.”
Ne-Yo responded to the allegations in a tweet, and asked people for privacy as they deal with the recent drama, saying: “Personal matters are not meant to be discussed and analyzed in public forums. I just ask that you respect the privacy of me and my family at this time.” However, it appears that Smith has made up his mind.
Crystal Smith files for divorce from Ne-Yo
While it appeared Ne-Yo wanted to work things out with his wife, Crystal Smith filed for divorce, per TMZ. She reportedly claimed he had a child with another woman during their marriage and she is asking for primary physical custody and joint legal custody of the three children they have together.
“[Smith] entitled to a divorce [Ne-Yo] on the grounds that the marriage has irretrievably broken up with no hope of reconciliation,” court documents obtained by Radar said. “The parties separated on or about July 22, 2022 and have lived in a genuine state of separation uninterrupted since that date.”
Smith also ordered the singer to pay $25,000 towards her legal fees. The couple renewed their vows with Essence in April and celebrated their love in Las Vegas with a “Red Affair” themed party. Although it’s public, we hope the divorce isn’t too messy and the couple can part peacefully.
