Kristin Cavallari is living her best life! Ever since the Uncommon James founder split from her ex-NFL star husband Jay Cutler, she’s adamant the breakup was a healthy thing for everyone involved. When she appeared on the School of Greatness podcast in June, she told host Lewis Howes that her children inspired her to do what she thought was right. “Being in a relationship where I was really unhappy was not going to work for me. And I knew for a long time in my gut that I had to do it,” she said, adding that it was “for the best.” decision for yourself.
The Hills star split from Cutler in 2020 and shared on Instagram that the two had decided to divorce after a decade together. “This is just the situation where two people grow apart,” Cavallari wrote. But while she revealed on the Call Her Daddy podcast that “nothing major” caused the breakup, there were reportedly plenty of red flags that should have prompted her to pull the plug sooner. Referring to the couple’s brief split before their engagement, Cavallari seemed to regret not trusting herself. “I broke off the engagement [for] I got divorced for the same reason, and I think if there’s anything to take away from it, there are red flags that you can’t ignore,” she shared.
But while the “Laguna Beach” alum also said (via the “School of Greatness” podcast) that she’s excited about her future, Cutler seems to be more cautious on things.
Jay Cutler isn’t interested in talking about the past
Kristin Cavallari has been open about her previous marriage, but Jay Cutler is less keen on repeating what went wrong. “I don’t understand,” he said on Sofia Franklin’s Sofia with an F podcast. “That’s two and a half years [since the marriage ended]. Why are we having these conversations?” The ex-quarterback also refrained from criticizing Cavallari, who is “still the mother of my kids,” noting that he had “dodged” going into what he said her, Cutler called ex-comments “weird.” “If she wants to say stuff, she can say stuff,” he added.
Cutler was perplexed when Franklin asked him why his relationship with Cavallari ended in the first place. He noted that she just “fell in love with him,” which appears to be related to the way the couple publicly addressed the breakup. However, in 2020, Page Six exclusively reported that Cavallari was filing for a divorce from Cutler because he turned into “that lazy, unmotivated dude” after his football career. “He was supposed to take this big job at Fox Sports and have a life after football that would see him get off the couch and do something. Instead, he backed out,” a source revealed.
Cavallari and Cutler began filming their reality series Very Cavallari in 2018, but that only made things worse. TVDeets reported that Cutler hated filming the show and he even made his then-wife cry on set. Perhaps the separation was a long time coming!
