Fans of Amazon Prime’s The Summer I Turned Pretty adaptation are as invested in Gavin Casalegno’s real-life romance as they are in his character’s relationship troubles. On-screen, Casalegno stars as Jeremiah Fisher, who becomes involved in a dramatic love triangle between Isabel Conklin (Lola Tung) and his brother Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney). In real life, however, the 22-year-old actor is fresh from a six-year relationship with actor, dancer, and TikTok star Larsen Thompson.
In happier times, Casalegno Thompson posted a sweet 18th birthday tribute to Instagram, calling himself “Jack to his Rose” and “Romeo to his Juliet,” adding, “I wouldn’t be the same without you! Thank you for everything you have done for me and for everyone. You are such an inspiration and a great role model.” Unfortunately, according to an exclusive report from J-14 dated August 11, 2022, their relationship is now over.
Prior to J-14’s confirmation, which an anonymous source cited, the former couple’s lack of social media activity and public events led fans and even media outlets like US Weekly and Extra TV to speculate that all was not well in paradise . Despite J-14’s report, neither star has made an official statement about their relationship. Unfortunately for the social media loving young couple, their relationship is well documented on the internet.
The timeline of Gavin Casalegno and Larsen Thompson’s relationship
According to Gavin Casalegno, he started dating Larsen Thompson a week before her 16th birthday. That puts the start date of their relationship around the first week of November 2016 (via Seventeen).
Like so many other Generation Z couples, the two met through social media. During a 2018 YouTube video, Larsen spilled all the details about their first meeting. “We chat with a mutual photographer, and the next week Gavin and I shoot with her, and she’s like, ‘Oh my God, you have to meet that person,'” Thompson said, adding, “So I went ahead with her photos.” and saw a picture of Gavin so I liked it, he saw my like and came up on my Instagram and he went into my DMs.”
Soon after, Casalegno and Thompson became “Instagram officials” and were often spotted at various public events — often in fashionable outfits. Over the years, the young couple has also made frequent appearances on each other’s popular social media channels, where they have often spoken poetically about one another. Unfortunately, the Insta-PDA came to an abrupt halt in April 2022; Since then, neither star has posted about the other on their social media channels.
Public displays of love weren’t the only way the couple showed their affection. According to Casalegno (via Seventeen), the “most lavish gesture” he’s ever made was to Thompson when he spent cash on a plane ticket to surprise her for her 16th birthday, despite only dating for a week.
Larsen Thompson’s career
While Larsen Thompson’s relationship with Gavin Casalegno may be over now, the rising star has plenty of other things going for her. Like Casalegno, who enjoyed roles on The Vampire Diaries and Walker before joining The Summer I Got Pretty, Larsen is an actor and a real TikTok celebrity.
Thompson got her start in 2015 when videos of her and Taylor Hatala dancing to popular artists like Big Sean and Beyoncé went viral on YouTube. Her choreographed routine to Beyonce’s “Run The World (Girls)” even caught the attention of Queen Bey herself. The high-energy video caught Beyoncé’s attention, prompting her to repost it to her Facebook account, where it racked up over eight million views.
In the years since, Larsen has moved to TikTok, where she has 1.2 million followers. She has also appeared in projects such as Sia’s music video The Greatest and The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run. Additionally, Larsen has also modeled for Maybelline, Tommy Hilfiger, and Dior (via Coveteur). And while she’s just getting started, Larsen credits her success to her early days on YouTube. “The platform has allowed us to reach an audience and deliver a message that is powerful and strong, and we were thrilled. It was such an amazing experience and something that kickstarted everything for me, including social media.”
As of August 2022, Larsen has two roles in post-production, according to IMDB, so it’s safe to say this isn’t the last of her.
