Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest really are daytime television’s golden couple. What makes their on-screen chemistry so wonderful and captivating? They are best friends in real life and share many of the same values. While personalities like George Stephanopoulos and Matt Lauer make headlines for all the wrong reasons, Seacrest and Ripa are sticking with their show Live with Kelly and Ryan and other projects. Ripa released a sharp new memoir in 2022 and Seacrest remains busy with its production company.
If you’re looking for Apple TV+ “Morning Show” drama, you won’t find it here! Both Ripa and Seacrest simply swarm over each other, both on and off screen. Ripa recently told ET: “Working with your friends is a great privilege. It’s a pleasure and I have to say it’s rare to work with a man who’s so genuine and fun and cheerful and humble and generous and kind to everyone.” We don’t cry, you cry!
Let’s take a look into their relationship and what makes these two so successful together.
They have been co-hosts for some time
Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest have co-hosted “Live with Kelly and Ryan” for over five years — time certainly flies when both personalities refuse to age, wink. Ripa’s previous co-hosts were the late Regis Philbin and ex-NFL player Michael Strahan. While Strahan seemed to leave the show extremely quickly, which shocked everyone (including Ripa), she recently opened up that it was Regis Philbin who wasn’t always easy to work with.
“There were good days and bad days,” she tells People that she co-hosted with Regis for ten years. “I don’t want to feel like I’m beating up on anyone or being disrespected. But I also want people to know that it wasn’t a cakewalk. It has taken me years to earn my place there and earn things that are routinely given to the men I have worked with. Including an office and a place for my computer.”
It seems like after many years of not being entirely comfortable with either co-host, Ripa has finally found her match with Seacrest, who she is very happy to work with. “What you see of Ryan on air is the person he is backstage, which is unique,” she told ET. The two seem to be very well balanced – with Ripa co-hosting the show for over 15 years, Ryan Seacrest has brought new energy to the daytime talk show.
Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest love making fun of each other
Working with someone who makes you laugh makes everything more enjoyable – just ask Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest! The two love to crack jokes at each other’s expense, all for fun of course.
When Ripa took a week off in August 2022, Seacrest made a point of teasing her to viewers of her show Live with Kelly and Ryan (via Us Weekly)! While Kelly and husband Mark Consuelos were on a romantic getaway to the Hamptons, Seacrest’s guest host Katie Lowes, “Scandal” actress, joked that they “[missed] Kelly.” Seacrest quipped back (via Us Weekly), “I heard she won the lottery. She is fine.”
Ripa is even known for making fun of herself on the show – calling her side part more attractive and joking: “I guess as long as I cover half my face you [and Consuelos] think i’m pretty” (via “Live with Kelly Ryan”). Instead of laughing, Seacrest gave her a little hug and gushed, “Noooooo!” These two are beyond adorable.
They have great on-air chemistry
Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest got emotional while celebrating their on-air anniversary together for Live with Kelly and Ryan in September 2022 – Seacrest even got tears in his eyes! He laughed into the audience and said, “I can’t actually speak.”
The host later told ET, “I’ll say this show is one of a kind, it’s a super different beast. This show is like you see when you watch the beginning, we have a plan but we rarely stick to a plan. And we can just get on like friends do. Get live updates every day. I don’t know of any other show nearby or that I’ve worked on that’s as laid back. The on-screen chemistry between the two always seemed so natural, making the show enjoyable for viewers to watch.
Ripa once said that she prefers “working with friends” (via ET), and she and Seacrest have actually known each other for over 20 years. It shows! “We involve each other in our intense workplace discussions, which was so new to me,” Ripa told The Wall Street Journal. Should Ripa’s husband Mark Consuelos be jealous of their bond? Never! Kelly and Ryan have repeatedly said it would be gross for them to be a couple! Seacrest once said on air, “We would never be together.” Kelly agreed, exclaiming, “Oh my god, never” (via “Live with Kelly and Ryan”).
They influence each other positively
One of the true tests of a valuable friendship: how one friend can positively influence the other without the other friend realizing it. For example, Kelly Ripa quit drinking when Ryan Seacrest became her co-host (via ET).
This topic came up when Ripa and Seacrest discussed the drop in wine sales in January 2020. “I think it’s because I stopped drinking that I caused this slump,” she joked on Live with Kelly and Ryan. But then Seacrest quipped, “I started the show and she stopped drinking, what does that tell you? I dont know. Is that good or bad?” Kelly noted that not drinking has been fantastic for her. One speculation has it that while working with her two previous co-hosts, Michael Strahan and Regis Philbin, Ripa needed alcohol to relieve stress and unwind a bit (via Little Things). Now that she’s working with Ryan Seacrest, she no longer has to rely on wine to unwind. All the more reason Kelly and Ryan are a match made in heaven!

She supports his partner
If you can’t trust your best friend to tell you the truth about who you’re dating, then who can you trust?! While Kelly has been married to handsome husband Mark Consuelos for over 20 years, Ryan Seacrest is notorious for dating younger women (like Julianne Hough and Shayna Taylor). Now the host, who is in her mid-40s, has been dating model Aubrey Paige since May 2021, as reported by Page Six. What does his BFF and co-host Kelly Ripa think of the model, who is over 20 years his junior? she loves them!
As revealed by the duo on Live with Kelly and Ryan, Ripa invited Seacrest to bring his model girlfriend to Consuelos’ birthday dinner in April 2022. “If you guys break up, I’ll retire. I’m so fond of her,” she told Seacrest on Aubrey Paige’s show the following Monday.
Seacrest split from his last ex, Shayna Taylor, in June 2020 (via Page Six). Hopefully Aubrey Paige stays here – Kelly really hopes so!
Both accept comments and insults from trolls
It seems like everyone online these days has an opinion – mostly negative, without a bit of finesse. The term “troll” was basically created to acknowledge those people who enjoy sitting behind a computer screen or phone to hide their identity while commenting on negative remarks on various social media platforms.
As socialites, Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Ripa are no strangers to internet trolls. According to Page Six , Seacrest posted a video to his Instagram in June 2022, and fans absolutely tore Ripa apart for “interrupting” him on “Live with Kelly and Ryan” and not letting him speak — the post had nothing to do with that talk show by the way. One fan commented on the Instagram post: “Ryan, tell Kelly to move on and back off. I’m so fed up that she complains about it [the] Show. And says she wants out. Tell her to go. no more watching Loving You. Loved her years ago!!!!
Both stars rarely comment or acknowledge insults online, which is probably the healthiest thing to do.
Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest trust each other
Becoming TV’s favorite morning duo came so naturally for Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest because they truly trust each other. In early 2022, Seacrest told People, “Obviously when we look at each other and talk to each other, there’s a tremendous amount of trust and respect, but we can also read each other’s minds. And I didn’t know we were that good at it, but we’re like that every day.” He also added the now-known fact that after being friends for so many years, they can trust each other. “Kelly and I have been for two We’ve been friends for decades,” Seacrest told People. “So we’ve known each other for a long time—longer than we were on the airwaves together.”
Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest are the best team since 2017. It’s become quite apparent that the two are very fond of each other and their positive energy and light absolutely shines through on TV.
