Inside Jennifer Garner’s friendship with Judy Greer after 13 Going On 30

It’s hard to believe that 13 Going on 30 is approaching its 20th anniversary. The romantic comedy, starring Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo and Judy Greer, follows 13-year-old Jenna Rink (Garner) who suddenly wakes up at the age of 30 seemingly in the middle of her dream life – except for her best friend Matt (Ruffalo).

Over the years, the film has developed a cult following, being referenced numerous times in pop culture spaces. It’s also a film that has helped many careers, including Brie Larson, Ashley Benson, and Christa Brittany Allen. “I feel so, so lucky to have had the experience of making this upbeat film,” Garner wrote on Instagram marking the film’s 15th anniversary. And even happier to be a part of something that all these years later can still make people smile.”

“13 Going On 30” has been a part of many people’s lives and apparently holds a special place in Garner’s heart as well. Eventually, she and Bestie Greer became friends there.

Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer have been inseparable since they were 13-30

We always hear stories of stars meeting their lovers on set, but rarely do we see friendships blossom when the cameras stop rolling. That’s apparently what happened to Jennifer Garner and Judy Greer, who met during acting and dance rehearsals for 13 Going On 30 and have been best friends ever since.

“Meeting her was a pleasure,” Greer said of her first interaction with Garner (via Insider). “Who can ever say enough about her? She’s literally like what everyone says, like the greatest of all time.” She went on to praise her co-star and gushed that she’s a dream to work with. “She was just a really great leader. She never complained. She was never late for work. She was professional, but she was also hilarious and obviously so talented,” Greer continued. “When you have someone like that as number 1 on the call list, you really have nothing to complain about. You’re an asshole if you do that.”

In an interview with Stellar, Greer said that she and Garner were probably meant to be friends, and she credits the film for that. “There was a bit of magic dust thrown on this film. We got really lucky,” she shared (via the Daily Mail). “We loved that movie and it brought us together, but I like to think that we were meant to be friends and somehow we found each other.”

Judy Greer cries when she talks about Jennifer Garner

Do you want to know how much Judy Greer loves her friend Jennifer Garner? She cries when she talks about her friend, so much! During a guest appearance on The Social, Greer couldn’t hide her emotions as she gushed about her longtime BFF. “I just love her so much and she’s such a special person,” Greer said at the time. “There aren’t many people in the world who deserve everything they’ve been given and all the success, and she’s one of them. I’m really happy for them.”

Greer also showered Garner with praise during her speech when Garner received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018. “The reason I’m here today is because 15 years ago someone paid me to be Jennifer Garner’s best friend,” Greer said. “I’m so proud of you and even though I’ve been paid to do it all these years, I’m so happy to now be your friend every day for free.” Awww!

Of course, Garner is just as grateful for Greer’s friendship. In 2021, the “Alias” actor took to Instagram to share one of their little bonding moments. “Today I had to go for a walk with one of my favorite people of all time,” she wrote in her story (via People). She also penned a separate post with a selfie of them together, saying: “Always the smartest. Always the funniest. Always the biggest @dodgers fan in the room. I love @missjudygreer. #TeamJG.” We are Team JG too!
