How Scarlett Johansson really feels about working with Chris Evans

It’s sad to think about, but Avengers: End Game may well be the last time we’ll see the OG Avengers on screen together. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe opens another chapter, we must welcome a different cast of characters and actors and explore new universes. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t miss Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, who also happen to be Earth’s Mightiest Friends.

You might be pleased to find out that to this day, the Avengers cast make an effort to keep in touch with each other, and they even have a group chat to prove it. Jeremy Renner, aka Hawkeye, said they’re all “very good friends” (via “phase zero” podcast). “We don’t really talk much about our job. And that’s also great about being Avenger friends. We talk about our kids, you know, and divorces, marriages, and house building. We only talk about our life stuff,” he dished. “Our friendship is something very special.”

But as with most friendships, there are some cast members who are closer to the others. And in the cast of OG Avengers, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans consider each other best friends.

Scarlett Johansson loves working with Chris Evans

For Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans is her work husband. In an interview with Parade in 2014 while they were starring in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Johansson gushed about how nice it was to get the opportunity to work with Evans.

“Even though the circumstances of our lives have changed and we’ve moved and our careers have progressed, he’s pretty much the same. We have the same kind of relationship between us, same shorthand, he’s just as goofy and serious as he’s always been,” she said. The Black Widow actor also praised Evan’s “humility” and “great sense of humor,” which she says is an asset since Marvel “can capitalize on that for the film.”

Also, what most fans don’t know is that Johansson helped persuade Evans to play Captain America. She was already part of the MCU at the time, so she helped convince her friend to take the plunge too. “I talked to him about it a little bit because I was already signed up for Iron Man. Of course, the pressure wasn’t on my shoulders like it was on Chris,” she told Variety. But Johansson also knew it wasn’t an easy decision since Marvel is such a big franchise. “He took the best out of the brunt of the production on his shoulders. It can feel like a gilded cage at times.”

Scarlett Johansson feels like Chris Evans’ ‘big sister’

As fans, it’s normal to wonder if Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans ever had a romantic relationship, but according to the ‘Marriage Story’ actor, romance was never on the cards for the two. When they appeared as lovers on “The Nanny Diaries,” she even said kissing Evans wasn’t a big deal. “Any excuse to get close to Chris Evans is delightful,” she told Access Hollywood. “By this point we’re old and jaded, so it’s like, ‘Take him on!’ No big deal. Use the Tic-Tacs. Get the cameras rolling.”

Johansson also said they already had a brother-sister dynamic from the start. “We just laugh so much together,” she told Entertainment Tonight Canada. “I think we find a lot of humor in ironic things. We just have a great friendship.” And even though Evans is older than her, she still feels like a “big sister” to him. “In a way, the ‘big sister’ relationship that Nat has with Steve at times, even though Chris is a few years older than me, I think we kind of have the same dynamic.”

And even though they’ve been working together for decades at this point, Johansson said she still loves playing with Evans. “We work well together, I think, and admire each other as actors, and we’re used to tossing the ball back and forth because we’ve done that in the past in other films we’ve done,” she said the Los Angeles Times. Sounds like they are the definition of #friendshipgoals!
