How Meghan Markle became close to Amal Clooney

When Meghan Markle made the decision to join the royal family, she had to sacrifice a lot. For one thing, she had to leave her acting career behind and abandon Hollywood altogether. For another, she had to move across the pond and cut off some so-called friends in her life.

“Many of Meghan’s friends have not heard from her. In some cases, she’s sent a mutual friend to explain that she wouldn’t be in touch again,” a royal insider told Grazia Magazine (via Daily Star). “People understood as soon as it became clear how serious her relationship with Harry had become.” Another source added, “Meghan is sociable but her life has changed and certain friendships can’t continue.”

Luckily, the Duchess of Sussex managed to forge a new circle of friends that became a pillar of support as she navigated her new life as royal. Apparently, one of those friends is none other than Amal Clooney.

Amal Clooney helped Meghan Markle adjust to her new life in London

Meghan Markle’s transition to London life probably wouldn’t have been as smooth without the help of Amal Clooney. The two reportedly met through their husbands and hit it off immediately. Aside from introducing Meghan to her hairdresser, Amal also apparently helped the royal adjust to life in England’s capital.

“When he started taking Meghan seriously, Harry introduced her to George [Clooney] and Amal, and the couple quickly started hanging out regularly,” a Kensington Palace source told the Evening Standard. “It was a natural friendship from day one.” Another source told People that they share “a lot of interests,” and Amal made efforts to “help Meghan settle into London.”

George confirmed this story, telling the Daily Mail in 2019 that he and Amal often hang out with Markle and Prince Harry. “We don’t live too far apart and we eat dinner and stuff and we’re friends with them for all the reasons you’re friends with anyone,” he shared (via Harper’s Bazaar). “They’re just really nice, fun, friendly people, they’re a very loving couple and they’re going to be great parents.”

Meghan Markle leaned on Amal Clooney throughout her pregnancy

Ever since Meghan Markle and Amal Clooney met, they’ve managed to form a close bond, to the point where Meghan relied on Amal for advice on pregnancy and motherhood when she first conceived . Per E! News, when Amal found out Meghan and Prince Harry had a baby on the way, she was apparently “thrilled” to see her friend become a mom.

“Amal was a wealth of knowledge on so many things and helped Meghan settle in,” the source told the outlet. “She’s given her advice on celebrity and public life… Meghan goes to Amal for many reasons and really trusts her instincts. Amal loves Meghan and is thrilled that she is going to be a mother. They will live very close to one and hope to see each other often. They have an understanding and a common ground that has really helped and supported Meghan.”

Aside from advice, Amal also reportedly threw a baby shower for Meghan in New York City alongside Serena Williams. According to Tatler, the king’s closest friends organized a celebration at The Mark’s penthouse that cost a whopping $75,000 a night. Among the guests were fashion designer Misha Nonoo, hairstylist Serge Normant, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Group chairwoman Bonnie Hammer, Meghan’s closest friends Markus Anderson and Lindsay Jordan, and her friend from Northwestern University, Genevieve Hills. Must be nice to be part of this group!
