How did Heather Rae Young and Tarek El Moussa meet?

Real estate investor Tarek El Moussa and real estate agent Heather Rae Young were no strangers to romance when they met. Young dated professional hockey player Nick Ebert for three years before calling it quits. Ebert revealed to Inside Vue that the two were at “different times” in their lives. He also mentioned that the age difference, Ebert being six years younger than Young, might have something to do with what they really wanted for the future.

“Selling Sunset” fans got a glimpse of what their relationship was like. The second episode of the first season featured a FaceTime call between the two when Ebert announced he was being picked up by a team in Switzerland. From Young’s reaction, it was clear that she was hoping a team in the United States would sign him.

El Moussa was married to his “Flip or Flop” partner Christina Haack but announced their split in 2016 and finalized their divorce a few years later. There were numerous reasons the couple split, and El Moussa posted on Instagram that he didn’t think he would get married or even “find love” again. That was until he met Young.

Tarek El Moussa slipped into the DMs

According to People, it was revealed that Tarek El Moussa slipped into Heather Rae Young’s direct messages right before filming “Selling Sunset.” She was still dating ex-boyfriend Nick Ebert at the time. Young replied that she had a boyfriend and the news was forgotten. But on July 4, 2019, El Moussa had his yacht parked next to a boat that the then-single Young was on, and he took it upon himself to say “hello” to House Beautiful.

Before long, the two were talking, hanging out, having drinks, and moving in together. “We moved in together really quickly after just a few weeks and we know each other so well,” Young told Page Six. “He is my best friend. He is an open book. He is who he is and so am I, so everything was great.”

In Season 5 Episode 3 of “Selling Sunset”, a text conversation between El Moussa’s sister and her best friend was revealed at Young’s wedding party. The conversation started on the day the two real estate workers met and best friend was on the boat. The conversation said El Moussa had “met someone” and told the best friend that Young was “his dream girl.”

From “dream girl” to girl

After some light-hearted jokes from Heather Rae Young about getting engaged in episode 5 of Selling Sunset season 3 while shopping for clothes with show drama queen Christine Quinn, Tarek El Moussa popped the question a year after they met. The two had an intimate engagement party (via People) but didn’t hesitate to share the special event on social media.

“The most special night with the most special man,” Young, who expressed her love for love on several occasions on “Selling Sunset,” shared on her Instagram page. “I can’t stop smiling.” The couple used the hashtag #FlippingHerLastName, indicating that Young would be changing her last name to El Moussa.

While some might have been skeptical about El Moussa and Young staying together given their fast-paced romantic timeline, the two reality TV stars tied the knot in October 2021. It was recently announced that HGTV would be producing an eight-episode docuseries called The Flipping El Moussas, per deadline. The documentaries take viewers on the personal journey of the couple as they move and potentially have children.
