Actor and talk show host Drew Barrymore has had a turbulent but ultimately triumphant journey through Hollywood. The ‘Never Been Kissed’ star started acting before she was 1 when she starred in a Puppy Choice dog food commercial, according to Biography. As Barrymore’s fame began to soar with starring roles in blockbusters like ET: The Extraterrestrial, the young star was thrust into adult-themed scenarios. After spending time at Hollywood parties and nightclubs, Barrymore entered a mental hospital at age 13 to be treated for drug and alcohol addiction.
In an interview with The Mail on Sunday’s You in 2021, Barrymore said her mother Jaid forced her to attend the facility. This resulted in her life changing. “My mom took me there because she couldn’t handle me anymore, but it was the best thing that’s happened to me,” Barrymore said (via the Daily Mail). “It taught me boundaries. Up to that point, I didn’t have any.” Since that experience, Barrymore has blossomed with continued professional success. With projects like Charlie’s Angels, Santa Clarita Diet and more, Barrymore has cemented her status as an A-list star. Her story could make an interesting biopic, and Barrymore has an idea who could play her in a movie about her fascinating life.

Drew Barrymore wants Joey King to be in a movie about her life
If Drew Barrymore’s life story ever becomes a biopic, the actor and talk show host already has an actor in mind for the lead role. Barrymore revealed this actor in a TikTok video she posted on Aug. 17. The clip shows Barrymore taking part in a TikTok trend consisting of very fast flashing photos of public figures suitable for various questions. Barrymore identified celebs by labels such as “best co-star kisser,” who he said is ET, and her “most surprising celebrity interview,” Machine Gun Kelly. Then Barrymore spoke “who should play [her] in a biopic,” for which she revealed a photo of actor Joey King.
Additionally, Barrymore featured King’s picture when asked about a “surprising celebrity in.” [her] phone contacts. In February, Barrymore and King met to discuss “The Drew Barrymore Show.” “Oh my god, this is what I’ve been waiting for,” Barrymore said when King sat down to chat with her, describing herself as “such an over-fan” of King’s work. Both the personal and professional experiences of the “Kissing Booth” stars would make King a great option to direct a Barrymore biopic.
Drew Barrymore and Joey King share a connection
Drew Barrymore’s choice to play her in a potential biopic, Joey King, would be a perfect choice for the role. For one, Barrymore and King both grew up in the public eye from a young age. Barrymore began acting when she was under 1, while King got her start in a Life Cereal commercial when she was 4, according to IMDb. As these two performers matured, they became the stars of some pretty epic rom-coms. While Barrymore has starred in films like Fever Pitch, Never Been Kissed, and 50 First Dates, King has starred in The Kissing Booth franchise and will star in an upcoming Netflix rom-com Zac Efron and Nicole Kidman, The Hollywood Reporter revealed in June.
Aside from having similar career paths, Barrymore and King appear to share a personal connection that would serve King well in playing Barrymore. After visiting “The Drew Barrymore Show” in February, King took to social media to express her joy at meeting Barrymore. “I’m in love with @drewbarrymore and I don’t care who knows,” King wrote on Instagram, alongside photos of her and Barrymore balling and laughing on set. Let’s hope these two talented performers make this biopic concept a reality soon!
