In the latest episode of her Archetypes podcast, Meghan Markle opened up about her time on Deal or No Deal and revealed the truth about her experience as one of the women who opened the briefcases during the game show. Meghan explained that she is grateful for the opportunity but not happy with how it makes her feel. “I was surrounded with smart women on that stage with me, but that wasn’t why we were there,” she said. “I didn’t like feeling forced to just have looks and little substance, and that’s what it felt like to me at the time — being reduced to that particular archetype.”
Meghan joined Deal or No Deal during its second season in 2006, but left the show in 2007 because she felt she was being “reduced to a bimbo,” according to TMZ. The Duchess of Sussex claimed she was told to “pull in her stomach” on stage and felt like she was always being objectified while working on the show. She told listeners, “I didn’t like feeling forced to have looks and little substance, and that’s how it felt to me back then when I was reduced to that particular archetype: the word ‘Bimbo’.” she shared on the podcast.
Meghan’s comments during the latter part of Archetypes may have surprised or disappointed listeners, but a former Deal or No Deal girl refutes the Duchess’ claims that the show’s models were mistreated.
Ex-Deal-or-No-Deal star Claudia Jordan disagrees with Meghan
Meghan Markle may have been grateful for the opportunity to appear on Deal or No Deal, but she didn’t speak highly of the experience during her most recent podcast episode, and now someone unexpected is denying her claims. Former The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Claudia Jordan was also a featured model on Deal or No Deal and recently took to Instagram Stories to share her personal experiences on the show. “‘Deal or No Deal’ never treated us like bimbos. We got so many opportunities because of this show,” Jordan said (via Us Weekly). She continued, “[This isn’t an] Attacking Meghan because God knows I’ve defended this woman in the media for years and will continue to do so, but I just didn’t want any misunderstandings about the climate and environment on the ‘Deal or No Deal’ set.
Whoopi Goldberg also contradicted Meghan’s stance, as seen on “Deal or No Deal” during a conversation about “The View,” insisting that viewers and contestants simply focus on the money (via Entertainment Weekly). These comments, which contradict Meghan’s claims, have drawn some backlash online. One user tweeted: “[Meghan] has the right to their own personal opinion. I would encourage Claudia, Whoopi or anyone dealing with an issue to please listen to the podcast again.” Although the final episode of ‘Deal or No Deal’ aired in 2019, Meghan says it is now clearly part of one become a much larger online discussion.
