Everything we know about Taylor Swift’s secret engagement

Another day, another round of rumors that Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn are engaged.

It wasn’t that long ago that people thought the “All Too Well” singer and the “The Favorite” actor would soon be swapping “Yes, I do.” In an April profile in The Wall Street Journal Magazine, Alwyn debunked all speculation that he had gotten on one knee. “If I had a pound every time I think I was told I’m engaged, I’d have a lot of pound coins,” he said at the time. “I mean, the truth is, if the answer was yes, I wouldn’t say, and if the answer was no, I wouldn’t say.”

Technically, he hasn’t provided a specific answer, but that’s expected given Alwyn has always been careful to keep his personal life on rock bottom. “We live in a culture that’s becoming more pushy … the more you give — and frankly, even if you don’t give — something is taken,” he told Elle. Now, according to recent reports, the longtime sweethearts have apparently secretly gotten engaged.

Taylor and Joe’s private engagement

According to anonymous sources, Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn have been engaged for months. Insiders told The Sun that the actor popped the big question earlier this year but only shared it with select people.

“They have actually been engaged for a few months but have only told their inner circle — basically immediate family and trusted very old friends,” the source says. “Everyone was also sworn to secrecy.” He apparently gifted Swift what they described as a “beautiful ring,” though she only wears it when she’s not in the spotlight. The source described that the couple would like “his love to stay away from the cameras as much as possible,” with members of Swift’s own team remaining in the dark about their wedding plans. “There will definitely be no Vogue, Rolling Stone or Hello! magazines there,” the source said of a future ceremony.

It’s understandable that the couple would like to remain private. After all, Swift’s past relationships have drawn criticism from the public, with the singer saying it’s the first time she’s felt happy without the intrusion of fans. “We decided together that we wanted our relationship to be private,” she said in her documentary Miss Americana, per Elle. “Although it [Swift’s public image in 2016] was really terrible, i was happy. But I wasn’t as happy as I was raised to be happy. It was bliss without anyone else’s contribution. We were just… happy.”
