Elizabeth Olsen’s first meeting with Taylor Swift didn’t go as planned

Comprised of rich, successful, and beautiful celebrities, Taylor Swift’s Girl Squad was once the envy of ordinary people around the world. In the late 2010s, Swift carried her roster of A-listers everywhere she went — at least while she had projects to promote. She even featured her friends in the star-studded video for Bad Blood, which was allegedly aimed at Swift’s then-fellow partner Katy Perry.

Proud members of Taylor Swift’s girl troupe included Selena Gomez, Gigi Hadid, Cara Delevingne, and Karlie Kloss, to name a few, according to Insider. While it looked like a club for the Hollywood Who’s Who, not every big name was part of this enviable group. One of those stars is actress Elizabeth Olesen. In May 2015, Olsen appeared on The Late Late Show With James Corden to promote her film Avengers: Age of Ultron. During the interview, the actor shared that while she “loves” Swift, they never managed to form a friendship — and Olsen blamed himself.

Elisabeth Olsen missed her chance at Taylor Swift

Meeting your idols isn’t always easy, a lesson Elizabeth Olsen learned the hard way when she met Taylor Swift. During Olsen’s appearance on The Late Late Show, she shared that she met the Love Story singer at a birthday party. “Taylor Swift comes up to me later that night,” Olsen said. When James Corden interjected, “We love Taylor Swift,” Olsen agreed. “And earlier in my ballet class, I did a dance sequence to her music that day and the Tuesday before.” Perhaps Olsen was overwhelmed. Maybe she was tired. In any case, it was uncomfortable. “I just talked to her for a long time,” admitted the “Avengers” star.

Ultimately, Olsen felt like she “screwed it up” with Swift because they “didn’t like exchanging phone numbers.” During the same interview, Corden Olsen asked if she shared any of her ballet moves with Swift. Olsen replied that she was “very close,” adding, “She asked me what song it was and I didn’t want to sing it for her. And I thought there was one with a lot of ‘ah’ sounds.” Eventually, Swift came up with a title and Olsen agreed, replying, “Yeah, that one!”

Although Olsen was never included in Swift’s roster, he has no reason to worry. In addition to starring in WandaVision, Sci-Fi & Fantasy Gazette reported that she could potentially have a recurring role in Season 2 of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon.

Celebrities who didn’t want to be on Taylor Swift’s squad

Despite Elizabeth Olsen’s enthusiasm for meeting Taylor Swift, not every star rushed to become Swift’s boyfriend. Over the years, several celebrities have either eclipsed or directly denounced Swift’s super-famous group of friends.

Hailey Bieber is definitely not a fan. “I don’t understand Taylor Swift’s roster at all,” Bieber told Yahoo7Be (via The West Australia). “I don’t know what it means to have a squad. I just have my friends and that’s it. I don’t think you need to create a public squad. I don’t know what that proves. So I don’t really understand Taylor Swift’s roster at all.” Meanwhile, Zendaya, who appeared in Swift’s Bad Blood video and accompanied the singer to the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, took a more subtle approach to expressing her disdain for the team According to E! News, Zendaya liked two tweets that distanced herself from the “White Horse” singer while she was in the midst of her feud with Kim Kardashian. “My girl Zendaya knew better,” one tweeted Another Twitter user wrote, “Glad Zendaya was never really done with the whole Taylor team.”The publication noted that Zendaya didn’t like the tweets, but the internet never forgets.

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. Swift revealed to Elle in 2019 that by the time she was 30, she had officially outgrown the “situations” of her younger years. “It’s sad but as you grow, sometimes you outgrow relationships,” she wrote. “You may leave friendships along the way, but the memories will stay with you forever.”
