Dolph Lundgren doesn’t hold back his feelings about Amber Heard’s behavior on set

Despite rumors to the contrary, it seems Amber Heard is still set to star in 2023’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Just Jared reported in mid-June that Heard’s role as Princess Mera had been cut from the Aquaman sequel, her role was being recast, and re-shoots were planned to star Jason Momoa and Nicole Kidman. However, Heard’s rep told Entertainment Weekly those rumors were “inaccurate, insensitive and slightly insane.”

In addition to a viral petition campaigning for Heard’s removal from the sequel, Warner Bros. and DC Films already seem to have been unenthusiastic about her return. Speaking before Heard’s defamation trial of Johnny Depp on May 24, DC Films President Walter Hamada testified that she simply missed the connection to Momoa, her on-screen love affair. “They didn’t really have a lot of chemistry together,” Hamada said, adding that “it took a lot of effort” in post-production to improve the on-screen connection of the stars. Ironically, Momoa was reportedly one of the people behind the push to keep Heard in the role, according to Vanity Fair.

Momoa wasn’t the only franchise member who seems to have remained a Heard supporter throughout their legal drama. Dolph Lundgren, who plays Mera’s father, King Nereus, in both Aquaman and the sequel, has publicly praised Heard’s behavior on set.

Dolph Lundgren continues to praise Amber Heard

With Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom still a year away from release, star Dolph Lundgren hasn’t held back his support for onscreen daughter Amber Heard. The King Nereus to her Princess Mera in the sequel, Lundgren told ET in late June that he had a great time making the film with her. “I haven’t spoken to Amber,” Lundgren said, but “she was amazing during filming.” With the sequel slated for a March 2023 release, Lundgren wasn’t sure about the size of Heard’s role, but passed on reports that the film has “looked great” so far.

Lundgren also previously praised Heard’s Aquaman 2 on-set behavior to Redline Steel CEO Colin Wayne in an interview in May, according to TMZ. “She was very nice and nice to the crew, nice to everyone, just down to earth,” shared the ‘Rocky IV’ star, adding that Heard’s baby daughter, Oonagh Paige Heard, “was with her on set with a nanny, which was kinda cute.”

Only time will tell the true fate of Heard’s Aquaman 2 role, but the actor has certainly trained hard for it. In August 2021, she shared a series of videos to her Instagram feed, including one of her practicing with a staff weapon and another of her lying exhausted on the gym floor.
