Derek Jeter fans seem as interested in his dating history as they are impressed with his athletic ability. In 2011, the former Yankees star found himself on the receiving end of a strange rumor surrounding his dating antics. According to a 2011 New York Post report, Jeter was known for giving gift baskets to women as parting gifts after a one-night stand.
“Derek has girls who stay with him at his apartment in New York and then he gets them a car to take them home the next day,” a source said. “There’s a gift basket in his car filled with signed Jeter memorabilia, usually an autographed baseball.” The insider went on to claim the baseball player gave the same woman an autographed baseball twice, suggesting he must have forgotten their first encounter. The Post source also described the former shortstop as “very shy”.
Now, over a decade after the bizarre report surfaced, Jeter – who is currently married to model Hannah Davis – is taking up this long-running rumor about his personal life.
Derek Jeter denies the rumors about gift baskets
Derek Jeter is finally addressing one of the most notorious rumors about his romantic relationships and firmly denied the allegations. In “The Captain,” an upcoming ESPN documentary, Jeter says the gift “never happened.”
“You know, you see it, and then it’s like, ‘How the hell did people figure that out? You know, basically, that’s it,” he said (via Us Weekly). Adding, “It’s a story that became larger than life. People keep choking on this story that never happened. Never happened.” This isn’t the first time Jeter has addressed the allegation. During a 2015 appearance on Undeniable with Joe Buck, the former Yankees player called the rumors “stupid.”
Jeter’s wife, Hannah Davis, also denied ever receiving one of his infamous gift baskets. “I never received a gift basket, I’m sorry to tell you,” Davis said of Shan & RJ, per TMZ. “I’m really sad that anyone can believe such a stupid story. It doesn’t make any sense.”
