Christi Paul is the latest anchor to leave CNN. The star is leaving the network at a rather critical time, as the news outlet lost a couple of high-profile stars in the months leading up to Paul’s exit. CNN was in the spotlight when Chris Cuomo was fired in December 2021 after allegations he had been helping his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, amid allegations of harassment. “Chris Cuomo was suspended earlier this week pending further evaluation of new information regarding his involvement in his brother’s defense,” CNN said in a statement. “We hired a reputable law firm to conduct the review and terminated them effective immediately.” The news network also claimed that more information was uncovered during the investigation, and CNN vowed to continue investigating, although Chris has left.
Then, in February, CNN was thrust back into the limelight when the network’s president, Jeff Zucker, resigned over a relationship he had with an employee that he had not disclosed. “As part of the investigation into Chris Cuomo’s tenure at CNN, I was asked about a consensual relationship with my closest colleague, with whom I have worked for more than 20 years. I have acknowledged the relationship that has developed over the past few years. I had to disclose it when it started, but I didn’t,” he said in a statement. “I was wrong. As a result, I’m resigning today.”
But why is Paul saying goodbye now?
Christi Paul’s great procession
Christi Paul leaving CNN isn’t shrouded in the controversy we saw with Chris Cuomo and Jeff Zucker’s exit. Instead, Paul announced on June 26 that she was leaving New Day, where she has hosted weekend shows for nearly a decade, to return to Ohio. “I’m part of the Great Retirement,” she said, explaining that she had experienced some difficult times in the months leading up to her departure, including her husband catching Covid, which was so severe she thought she could be a single mother will. Paul also made it clear there was no bad blood with her CNN co-hosts, telling viewers, “I love these people, I love this place. And I’m so tired I am so exhausted. I just couldn’t be who I need to be there for my family. I’m tired of being tired.” It’s not clear where Paul will be working next, although she told fans she expects to continue to be on television in Ohio.
Paul’s big news came a few days after she posted a pretty telling quote on Instagram. On June 21, she shared the words: “I think we’re all exhausted from feeling judged. I also think we have the power to change that.” She wrote, “Promise: I will do everything to make people feel happier and more valuable than I found them. Because every second we can choose what comes out of our mouth. Who is with me?
