Chris Pratt is finally opening up about one of his most infamous social media posts

Chris Pratt is used to being attacked when playing the superhero on the big screen. Unfortunately, he also often comes under fire for aspects of his real life. The actor, who gained popularity for his roles on Guardians of the Galaxy and sitcom Parks and Recreation, is notorious for his controversial social media posts and worldview.

In 2019, actor Eliot Page Pratt took to Twitter for attending Hillsong, a church that Page described as “notorious anti-LGBTQ” in his post. Pratt defended his place of worship, posting an Instagram story that read, “I’m going to a church that opens its doors to absolutely everyone” (via NBC News). Still, Page’s tweet received over 18,000 retweets, which put Hillsong Church — which was also the church of choice for stars like Justin Bieber — under scrutiny. Pratt has since clarified to Men’s Health that he never attended Hillsong and regrets becoming a public “face of religion,” if it really is [he’s] not a religious person.”

Despite the controversy, he doesn’t seem to have lost his footing in Hollywood because of it. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has previously defended Pratt. While his career seems unscathed and the actor has no doubt adjusted to the scrutiny that comes with fame, it seems that criticism hits that much harder when it impacts his family.

Chris Pratt cried in response to an unintended dig

In November 2021, Chris Pratt posted something about his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, on Instagram. The post reads, in part, “She gave me an amazing life, a beautiful healthy daughter, she chews so loud I sometimes put in my earbuds to drown it out but that’s love!”

Between that initial compliment and Pratt’s joke, some readers shouted what they considered ableism to his firstborn son, Jack, with his ex-wife, Anna Faris. “[C]For Chris Pratt to gush about how his now-wife gave him a ‘healthy daughter’ is SO disgusting when he has an adorable disabled son with his ex-wife,” one Twitter user wrote.[He] has a child, Anna Farris, who suffered a brain hemorrhage at birth and is now slightly disabled as a result. But he made sure to write “healthy daughter” here. Chris Pratt is an asshole,” said another.

Immediately afterwards, Pratt replied on Instagram, “I went to bed really upset and depressed last night and when I woke up I felt crappy and didn’t want to work out” (via Today). He later told Men’s Health about the backlash: “My son will read this one day. he is nine And it’s set in digital stone… I cried about it – a real drain on the people close to me.” It’s hard to balance fatherhood and A-list fame, as Chris Pratt knows all too well .
