Cameron Diaz’s unexpected career announcement has fans freaking out

It’s been a while since Cameron Diaz was one of Hollywood’s hottest stars. After shocking everyone with her sudden and unexpected engagement to Benji Madden, Diaz doubled down on marriage by marrying him in 2015. She had slowed down in acting since meeting Madden, whom she married in 2015. Her last full-length feature film was Annie, which was released in 2014. However, Diaz didn’t officially confirm that she had “retired” until 2018.

“I’m also semi-retired, and I’m actually retired, so I’d love to see you, ladies,” Diaz told Christina Applegate and Selma Blair during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. She and Madden welcomed a child via a surrogate just a year later. Diaz spoke about what life was like with daughter Raddix and being an elderly mom in an interview on Naomi Campbell’s YouTube series No Filter.

“Having a family when you’re young — it’s like everything when you’re young: you do it,” she explained. “But when you’re my age and you decide to do that, it’s a real choice. You have to work really hard for it.” Diaz told Campbell she has no plans to go back to work, but that “you can never say anything about anything.” It seems “everything” comes in the form of Jamie Foxx, and Diaz’s unexpected career announcement has fans freaking out.

Cameron Diaz has come out of retirement

Cameron Diaz is tired of clipping coupons, playing golf, knitting and gardening. Diaz’s life outside of the Hollywood spotlight is over — she’s put AARP life on hold and hasn’t retired from acting. The actor quietly disappeared from Hollywood life to focus on being a mom. Then along came Jamie Foxx (and Netflix). The actor announced in a tweet that Diaz is back in business. “Cameron, I hope you’re not upset that I recorded this, but there’s no going back now. Had to call the GOAT to bring back another GOAT. @CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION for our new film with @NetflixFilm. Production starts later this year!!” He captioned a video montage of a dizzying text exchange between the two.

Unsurprisingly, fans freaked out. “You are an amazing person, Jamie. Thank the maker for being there,” one commented. “A+ Marketing for this film. No notes. No idea what it’s going to be about but I see it based on that alone,” tweeted one cynical but still excited fan. “So surprised she’s coming back!” shouted another.

During an August 2021 session, Diaz told Kevin Hart that she feels she is becoming a Hollywood “machine.” She said that when she turned 40 she became aware of the passage of time and then along came Benji Madden. She admitted she retired from her career because she needed “the space” to make good decisions for herself. She said: “I met my husband, you know, we started a family, all those things that I didn’t have time for before.”
