There’s a new wrinkle in the Britney Spears saga. Amid her years-long struggle for the Conservatoryship, Spears lashed out at nearly everyone in her immediate family — most notably her parents and siblings. Though it was her father, Jamie Spears, who ran the controlling and allegedly “abusive” conservatory for more than 13 years, Spears didn’t hold back when it came to her mother, Lynne.
Britney, who has become known for creating a series of controversial Instagram posts before quickly deleting them (even going so far as to deactivate her entire account a few times), said on the social media platform in November 2021 – briefly before officially ending the conservatory — that Lynne “secretly ruined my life” and told her to “go fuck yourself.” She added that while much of the blame for the conservatory rests with her father, it was Lynne who “gave him the idea” (she then deleted the post). Shortly thereafter, Lynne sought more than half a million dollars in legal remedies from her daughter against people in connection with the guardianship dispute.
However, there was also some good news in Britney’s life. After being discharged from her conservatory, she married longtime boyfriend Sam Asghari in a star-studded wedding in June. Since the wedding, to which Lynne was not invited, Britney seems to have changed her mind about her mother and their relationship seems to be moving towards a friendly one.
Britney Spears praises her mother for her support
On July 17, Britney Spears took to Instagram to heartily thank a number of women — namely, Drew Barrymore, Paris Hilton, and Selena Gomez — for attending her wedding. She then wrote an afterword at the end of the caption, mentioning how her mother, Lynne, had been asked several times how Britney felt about her reaction to the wedding. “She said all she wanted for me was to be happy!!!” Britney wrote, adding, “I’m so lucky to have such a supportive family!!! God bless you.” Britney closed the post with several heart emojis, indicating that she seems to be letting go of previously bitter feelings towards her mother.
That’s not the only indication that Britney’s relationship with her mother appears to be healing. A day before posting this message, Britney posted a picture to Instagram with the caption, “I’ll be laying under the tree to remind my family that I’m a gift.” Lynne then commented under the post, according to Entertainment Tonight: “You were the first little girl of the three of us,” referring to her sister Sandra and niece Laura. “We all saw you as a precious gift!” She concluded, “You were and always will be my gift!” Although Britney removed the original upload, she reposted the same image. Maybe it’s Britney’s way of thanking Lynne — and maybe even making their relationship better for good.
