What if we told you that you’ve most likely already met the love of your life? According to reality dating series The One That Got Away, most people have met their partner by age 25 — they just don’t know who it is. This idea has led the show’s contestants to question everyone they’ve ever come into contact with.
Throughout the series, six singles are given a chance to reconnect with special people from their past who could potentially be their soulmates. In other words, “the one who escaped” could be patiently waiting right next to the set. In each episode, an entirely new person appears from the past of each contestant from The Portal. “These people come in through The Portal and our participants see them and all of these memories come back,” host Betty Who said during an exclusive interview with our sister site The List. “This is such an interesting place to start a conversation about a relationship.”
In fact, hosting the series Who gave a whole new perspective when it comes to second chances.
People from your past can change a lot over the years
Many singles in Season 1 reconnected with people they hadn’t seen in decades. Even in the years that they were separated, a lot has changed. “People can really change,” Betty Who told The List. “You have to give people a chance to show you who they are now.”
The show is about opening up to people from your past who know you – maybe even better than you know yourself. You just have to give them a chance to prove themselves. “We’re going to see a lot of that in this season of ‘The One That Got Away,'” teased the Who.
Seeing each individual interact with someone from their past was life-changing for the host watching from the off. Wrapping up for the final was something she will never forget either. “I walked out of the season very optimistic about the way people can change and show up for you,” she said.
Season 1 of The One That Got Away is now available to stream exclusively on Prime Video.
