Myrla Feria and Gil Cuero are known as one of the breakout couples from the Houston edition of Season 13 of “Married at First Sight,” according to People. The Lifetime series first aired in 2014 and is now celebrating a major milestone in its 15th season, per Us Weekly. Over the past eight years, Married at First Sight has successfully brought together 14 married couples to date, and produced nine children, according to the network’s official biography.
Relationship experts Pastor Cal Roberson, Dr. Pepper Schwartz and Dr. Viviana Coles brought Feria and Cuero together because they wholeheartedly believed that their core family views made them a good match, and because their strengths and weaknesses balance each other out, according to In Touch Weekly. Despite facing several differences in their marriage, fans are genuinely committed to helping this couple find common ground and push through.
According to Reel Rundown, after the show’s two-month trial, they both face the big decision of whether or not to stay married or divorce. While viewers on the edge of their seats were unsure what Cuero and Feria would decide, the couple eventually agreed to remain married, per Meaww. However, no one could have predicted how their love story would really end.
Myrla Feria wanted a more financially stable man
Lute! News, just two weeks after Myrla Feria and Gil Cuero decided to stay married, they decided to part ways and end their relationship. What exactly happened between these two? During the reunion episode “Married at First Sight,” Cuero made the shocking announcement that Feria no longer wanted to be with him and ended their marriage. However, according to his partner, she couldn’t get past two things – finances and a lack of chemistry. “For me, the initial attraction and chemistry wasn’t there from the start and I realized I wasn’t happy,” Feria said at the reunion (via E! News). “I think there was an attraction, but for me there has to be more.”
As for financial matters, Feria wanted Cuero to offer some stability when it comes to her future. And in that regard, she revealed that they were very different. “I wasn’t willing to compromise on godliness or financial stability, which means someone knew how to manage their finances and was in a similar place to me financially,” she told Bee during an interview with RealiTV (via cheat sheet).
While those were turning points for Feria, Cuero had his own reasons why their marriage didn’t work out.
Gil Cuero Says He’s ‘Blind’
As seen throughout the season, Gil Cuero and Myrla Feria struggled with the chemistry and lack of intimacy in their marriage. A few weeks into their relationship, her fellow cast members gathered at a meeting place at her home and asked if they had kissed yet. “Short answer is no, long answer is no,” Cuero admitted. While this unfortunately put a lot of strain on their marriage, the two were able to pull through and both decided to remain married on the day of the decision.
However, at the “Married at First Sight” reunion, Cuero revealed that they only lasted a fortnight after the show ended because Feria no longer wanted to be with him. “The biggest issue I have with all of this is that she felt that way from the start,” he told host Kevin Frazier (via E! News). He went on to claim that he was “taken by surprise” by all of this. “I totally understand if she’s not attracted to me, she doesn’t think I’m the man for her,” Cuero added. “I don’t want to force anyone to be with me if they don’t want to be with me.”
Since their breakup, Cuero’s focus has been on going to therapy and making sure he heals first. “This time I want to learn from my past and I want to do it in the opposite way, which I think is the right way, so I don’t fall into the same patterns,” he said on Dear Future Wifey.
