Amber Heard’s sister sees red over Johnny Depp’s 2022 VMA appearance

Amber Heard’s sister Whitney Heard lashes out at Johnny Depp and the MTV Video Music Awards after the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star made a surprise appearance at the August 28 ceremony. Days before the show, TMZ confirmed that the actor would be making his first major public appearance since Amber’s defamation trial.

Depp lived up to his promise to return to the VMA stage, but his appearance was virtual. Contestants and viewers at home were treated to an enhanced version of the entertainer – as his head was digitally placed on top of a giant moonperson. “You know what? I needed the work,” Depp said when the moonperson appeared on stage (per The Hollywood Reporter). The brief moment was followed by a commercial break, after which Depp returned to the stage and told the audience, “Hey, VMAs, let’s get back to the fucking music, shall we?”

In a later appearance, Depp continued to make fun of himself and indicated that he was open to performing at other events. “I just want you guys to know that I’m available for birthdays, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, weddings, wakes and anything.” Now, Amber’s sister Whitney shares her thoughts on Depp’s return to the spotlight and doesn’t keep her words return.

Whitney Heard slammed MTV

Whitney Heard made it very clear she didn’t like Johnny Depp’s performance at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards and is now slamming the network. After Depp’s cameo, Whitney took to Instagram to emphasize her continued support for her sister, Amber Heard. “Stand with Amber Heard,” read a picture posted to Whitney’s Instagram story (via Entertainment Weekly). She adds: “@MTV you are gross and clearly desperate! I really hope none of the people who made that call have daughters.” Whitney shared the note along with the altered image, which captioned the ceremony as “DVMAs.”

Fans online also seemed split over Depp’s performance at the awards show. “Johnny Depp at the VMA just shows he doesn’t give a fuck about the trolls,” one person tweeted. While another wrote: “Imagine you’re a VMA producer in 2022 and you’re thinking, ‘We should get Johnny Depp. I feel sick.”

Despite the outpouring of opinion on social media, Depp’s career now shows no signs of slowing down. According to TMZ, the actor recently signed a seven-figure renewal deal with Dior and has reportedly made over $3 million from his first art collection.
